Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is not pollution and Global Warming has nothing to do with pollution. The average person has been misled and is confused about what the current Global Warming debate is about, greenhouse gases. None of which has anything to do with air pollution. People are confusing Smog, Carbon Monoxide (CO) and the pollutants in car exhaust with the life supporting, essential trace gas in our atmosphere, Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Pollution is already regulated under the Clean Air Act and regulating Carbon Dioxide (CO2) will do absolutely nothing to make the air you breath “cleaner”. Regulating Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions through either ‘Carbon Taxes’ or ‘Cap and Trade’ policies will cause energy prices (electricity, gasoline, diesel fuel, propane, heating oil ect…) to skyrocket.

We were talking about significant digits with our daughter Rose. Then hubby said he had a CO2 meter and Rose became fascinated. He said he has always measured outdoor CO2 anywhere between 250 and 400 ppm. So then we figured – 250 divided by 1-million is 0.00025 to 0.0004 or 0.025% to 0.04%. Then we recalled air is 78% N2, 21% O2 and 1% other. So in that 1% other, a small change in 0.025 to 0.04 is supposed to cause global disaster?
For one thing the number floats from 250 to 400 ppm when we measure it in the Albany NY area, so exactly how is it being measured as increasing over the past hundred years? Something at so small of a concentration is theoretically responsible for upcoming global disaster? We smell a hoax.
The claim appears to be that the global temperature today is 1 degF warmer than 100 years ago. What is the associated ppm of CO2 back then? We do not see that number put out with the often quoted 1 degF. CO2(molecular weight 44) is larger than N2(28) and O2(32) – less than 2 times heavier, and only 0.025% to 0.04% of the total molecule soup. On a weight basis, .04*44/[78×28+21*32]= 0.06% by weight. Hmmmmm.
The specific heat of CO2 is about 0.85; N2=1.04; O2=0.92. Again, how does a minutia amount of CO2 that has similar heat property to the majority of air components actually the blame for theoretical global catastrophe? Actually, a lower specific heat means that it does not absorb and releases heat as good as N2 and O2. So heat absorbed, does not release as easily as the other molecules. But it is not that different, and the comparable amounts of the molecule are so tiny.
A number that is measured locally between 250ppm to 400 ppm is being averaged across the planet to 1 number, AND spot ice cores are used to take one CO2 number in one spot with gross assumptions that the test equipment accurately measures CO2 10’s of thousands of years ago as a representative sample for the ENTIRE planet! The generally accepted number for world CO2 is 385 ppm (per WikiAnswers), a variation of 250 to 400 ppm is (400-250)/385 approximately 39% So these spot ice core samples used to determine past planet wide CO2 could have a 39% variation from what would be the “accepted” world average at that time. And that assumes that the same variation existed at the time of the sample as exists in the world today.
There are strict rules for calculating statistical data. The rules address sample size, measurement accuracy, significant digits, presenting the standard deviation and calculated variation in the data. In a country full of college and high school graduates, it is an insult to not present the data, data collection details, statistical analysis numbers and methods of data collection.
