Australia's PM Rudd supports resource destruction
By Mr Viv Forbes, Chairman, The Carbon Sense Coalition, Australia
Australia’s PM Rudd, Santa Clause of the Global Warming Industry, wants to waste another $100 M per year of other people’s money on his Carbon Capture and Storage Institute. All life on earth depends on our atmosphere for four essentials – oxygen, water, carbon and nitrogen. This foolish Institute aims to permanently sterilise two of them, carbon and oxygen. It destroys valuable resources and wastes extra energy doing it. Every tonne of carbon buried in CO2 by CCS takes almost 3 tonnes of oxygen with it. It is more accurately referred to as Oxygen Capture and Burial (OCB). Planets like earth gradually lose their life-sustaining atmosphere and end up as lifeless planets like Moon and Mars. It just takes time. The essentials of life are already being continually lost by other processes, largely locked up in rocks as limestone or coal, lost to space, or buried in ocean sediments, land fill or human cemeteries. These buried treasures are lost for eons, maybe forever, to the cycle of life. The OCB scheme would deliberately accelerate that deathly process. Burning coal and oil, smelting metals, mining phosphate and calcining cement make small contributions to reverse this long term disappearance of essential elements from our atmosphere and biosphere. There are no climate benefits of this silly proposal because CO2 in the atmosphere does not control climate – the tiny effect of man’s CO2 emissions is wholly beneficial.
The OCB Scheme will provide cushy jobs and Frequent Flyer Points for the Climate Change Industry, jobs losses in every real industry, and soaring costs in every home. Green extremists know that OCB is a fantasy but see it as a weapon to cripple carbon industries with taxes, thus making solar and wind power look economic. Our PM should reduce his carbon footprint and come home. Australia cannot afford a world statesman.

Gore: U.S. Climate Bill Will Help Bring About 'Global Governance'
By Marc Morano, Climate Depot
Former Vice President Al Gore declared that the Congressional climate bill will help bring about “global governance.”
“I bring you good news from the U.S., “Gore said on July 7, 2009 in Oxford at the Smith School World Forum on Enterprise and the Environment, sponsored by UK Times.
“Just two weeks ago, the House of Representatives passed the Waxman-Markey climate bill,” Gore said, noting it was “very much a step in the right direction.” President Obama has pushed for the passage of the bill in the Senate and attended a G8 summit this week where he agreed to attempt to keep the Earth’s temperatures from rising more than 2 degrees C.
Gore touted the Congressional climate bill, claiming it “will dramatically increase the prospects for success” in combating what he sees as the “crisis” of man-made global warming.
“But it is the awareness itself that will drive the change and one of the ways it will drive the change is through global governance and global agreements.” (Editor’s Note: Gore makes the “global governance” comment at the 1min. 10 sec. mark in this UK Times video.)
Gore’s call for “global governance” echoes former French President Jacques Chirac’s call in 2000.
On November 20, 2000, then French President Chirac said during a speech at The Hague that the UN’s Kyoto Protocol represented “the first component of an authentic global governance.”
“For the first time, humanity is instituting a genuine instrument of global governance,” Chirac explained. “From the very earliest age, we should make environmental awareness a major theme of education and a major theme of political debate, until respect for the environment comes to be as fundamental as safeguarding our rights and freedoms. By acting together, by building this unprecedented instrument, the first component of an authentic global governance, we are working for dialogue and peace,” Chirac added.
Former EU Environment Minister Margot Wallstrom said, “Kyoto is about the economy, about leveling the playing field for big businesses worldwide.” Canadian Prime Minster Stephen Harper once dismissed UN’s Kyoto Protocol as a “socialist scheme.”
‘Global Carbon Tax’ Urged at UN Meeting
In addition, calls for a global carbon tax have been urged at recent UN global warming conferences. In December 2007, the UN climate conference in Bali, urged the adoption of a global carbon tax that would represent “a global burden sharing system, fair, with solidarity, and legally binding to all nations.”
“Finally someone will pay for these [climate related] costs,” Othmar Schwank, a global tax advocate, said at the 2007 UN conference after a panel titled “A Global CO2 Tax.”
Schwank noted that wealthy nations like the U.S. would bear the biggest burden based on the “polluters pay principle.” The U.S. and other wealthy nations need to “contribute significantly more to this global fund,” Schwank explained. He also added, “It is very essential to tax coal.”
The 2007 UN conference was presented with a report from the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment titled “Global Solidarity in Financing Adaptation.” The report stated there was an “urgent need” for a global tax in order for “damages [from climate change] to be kept from growing to truly catastrophic levels, especially in vulnerable countries of the developing world.”
The tens of billions of dollars per year generated by a global tax would “flow into a global Multilateral Adaptation Fund” to help nations cope with global warming, according to the report.
Schwank said a global carbon dioxide tax is an idea long overdue that is urgently needed to establish “a funding scheme which generates the resources required to address the dimension of challenge with regard to climate change costs.”
‘Redistribution of wealth’
The environmental group Friends of the Earth advocated the transfer of money from rich to poor nations during the 2007 UN climate conference.
“A climate change response must have at its heart a redistribution of wealth and resources,” said Emma Brindal, a climate justice campaigner coordinator for Friends of the Earth.
[Editor’s Note: Many critics have often charged that proposed climate tax and regulatory “solutions” were more important to the promoters of man-made climate fears than the accuracy of their science. Former Colorado Senator Tim Wirth reportedly said, “We’ve got to ride the global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, we will be doing the right thing — in terms of economic policy and environmental policy.”]
Protest at Al Gores breakfast in Melbourne Mon July 13th
We are inviting all those sceptical that CO2 causes dangerous Global warming to join with us in an Educational protest outside where Al Gore will have a breakfast with 1,000 invited guests starts. The breakfast starts at 7 am at the Docklands Peninsula (just opposite Docklands stadium) on Harbour esplanade. Those wishing to protest that either “Al Gore has got the facts wrong” or “Carbon trading will destroy our economy for no good reason” or “Gore should publicly debate the evidence of CO2 causing dangerous global warming” can assemble at 6.15 am at Southern Cross station at the southern end up stairs next to where it opens straight onto the Collins Street bridge.
You will see people in tshirts with CRAP – Carbon Really Aint Pollution and that will be us.
Myself, Steve Murphy and Anthony Cox will lead the event. At 6.20 am I will inform people of a bit of house keeping & our general plan of what we can chant and how we will engage politely with people. At 6.25 am we will walk to the Peninsula and set up as per our plan. At 7.05 pm most of Gores invited guest will be in the breakfast and we will have some speeches, songs, poems and media things happenning.
Depending on what other options we have, we will have a cuppa from about 8 am There is a slight chance another 10 minute protest option could arise at 9.30 when Al Gore is actually speaking but it is very slim chance at this stage. Bring a placard with a fun Gore or global warming comment on it.

Global warming alarmism enriches Gore, bankrupts the rest of us
By Ron Smith, Baltimore Sun
Let us begin today with full disclosure: For those who don’t know my position on global warming alarmism and its insidious uses, it is that this phenomenon is the greatest hoax in modern times and is being used to achieve things – bad things – quite apart from its ostensible goal of “saving the planet.” Al Gore wanders the spheroid he is determined to save, spouting increasingly inane observations as his bank account grows and his “carbon footprint” becomes ever more Godzilla-like, considering all the jet fuel burned as he hurtles from appearance to appearance. I have read that his speaking fee is now $175,000 a pop, a fee for which his audiences are fed what seems to me to be an amazing concoction of lies, distortions and flights of fancy. The other day, in a speech given in Oxford before the Smith School World Forum on Enterprise and the Environment, the former American vice president, Nobel Peace Prize recipient and Oscar winner likened the battle against what he now calls climate change (perhaps because the globe is no longer warming and lots of people are aware of that) to the fight decades ago against the Nazis. No, I’m not kidding: The man stood there and said his cause is one that can rightly be compared to fighting Nazism and its systematic extermination of Europe’s Jews and other untermenschen. He urged British leaders to heed the example of Winston Churchill, who “aroused this nation in heroic fashion to save civilization in World War Two.” Ah, to fight so heroically for all of humanity is such an admirable thing, eh? Think about it. Here’s a man who is founder and chairman of the Alliance for Climate Protection, which is so devoted to its mission that it is spending a reported $300 million in advertising to pressure politicians into doing right by the greenies. At the same time, Mr. Gore is also chairman of something called Generation Investment Management, which stands to profit mightily from the actions of governments that succumb to the pressure from the other group he heads. Nice work there. One hand washes the other, and those in the in-crowd divvy up lots of money. Overseas, climate change was the top issue at the opening of the Group of 8 summit in Italy this week, while here at home the Obama administration, the Democratic Congress and their news media propagandists are prepping us for a huge and regressive tax increase masquerading as an environmental measure. It’s the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill, aka the American Clean Energy and Security Act, which passed the House late last month. If we’re lucky, the miserable legislation will be killed in the Senate, but it’s more likely that some version of it will spring into life to do its damage to us under the guise of saving the planet and making us energy independent – which, in case you don’t know, isn’t possible in the real world. On Tuesday, I talked with California Republican Rep. Tom McClintock, who stood on the floor of the House June 26 and warned us all of what lies ahead if this measure makes it into law. “I had a strange sense of déjà vu as I watched the self-congratulatory rhetoric on the house floor tonight,” he said. “Three years ago, I stood on the floor of the California Senate and watched a similar celebration over a similar bill. … And I have spent the last three years watching as the law has dangerously deepened California’s recession.” (To get the details of his warning from the left coast, you can listen to my interview with Mr. McClintock by going to my page at wbal.com.) I mentioned that the ostensible purposes of climate change alarmism are quite apart from the actual goals, which are increasing the power of global government over the masses by implementing international socialism, resulting in what writer Brendan O’Neill calls “the new Green-Industrial Complex,” which would control the world economy. This is power beyond compare – and we all know what happens when an elite seizes total power, don’t we?
Global Warming Hoax Weekly Round-Up, July 10th 2009
Welcome to the hippie-head popping round-up of all things inconvenient and skeptical from the wacky world of global warming. This will be the last round-up for a few weeks, The Daily Bayonet is headed to the sceptered isle of his birth for a visit, so you’re on your own. Unless of course you choose to visit the many examples of blog excellence represented in the Blogroll. That was a hint, in case you missed it.
Part One: Al Gore & Friends
Was this the week that Al Gore finally jumped the shark? While it comes as no surprise that the global warming profiteer prophet has a flair for the dramatic, he outdid himself when he compared the global warming threat to the Nazi threat of WWII. This is what Al said, out loud, to a paying audience (emphasis mine):
‘Winston Churchill aroused this nation in heroic fashion to save civilisation in World War Two,’ Mr Gore said. ‘We have everything we need except political will but political will is a renewable resource.’ Mr Gore, who won the Nobel Peace Prize for the climate change film An Inconvenient Truth, said the greatest challenge would be to convince people that the threat from climate change was as urgent as the threat from Nazi Germany.
Global warming alarmists have always been dismissive of history, the use of the word ‘denier’ to label skeptics is an attempt to conflate people who prefer that science be scientific with those that deny Hitler’s genocide of the Jews. Al has taken this skewed version of history and taken it up a notch. A word to Al and his credulous minion hordes, it’s not comparable, not even close. Perhaps it was fortunate that few members of government showed up for the speech, as one of the organizers noted:
Sir David, director of the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at Oxford University, which organised the three-day forum, said he was ‘disappointed’ by the poor turnout from members of the Government. He said he had hoped ministers, including the Prime Minister, would attend. ‘That did not transpire. We need to work much harder with the Government.’
After Al’s Godwin moment at the forum, I imagine it will be hard to get any politician in the same zip code, let alone the same room. The Goreacle wasn’t finished with his special version of crazy, he went on to say this:
Climate change, he said, is “ultimately a problem of consciousness”. He went on: “What is being tested is the proposition of whether or not the combination of an opposable thumb and a neocortex is a viable construct on this planet”.
Gore’s handlers were seen removing sharp objects from the vicinity of their man and are seeking a carbon-neutral helmet as we speak.
Before his mini-meltdown in Oxford, Al had blogged earlier about the passage of the cap and bend-over bill, calling it ‘bi-partisan’. And by bipartisan he meant thanks to the 8 GOP quislings that provided political cover for the Goreapelosi tax hike. And yes, that was me using an old term to describe Nazi enablers. Goose sauce, meet gander. Weather warming for Melbourne, Australia. Monday 13th July will see the city blanketed in deep snow with windchills and certain death if you venture outside. It’s the Gore Effect, and it’s real. Public service announcement ends. It would be fair to ask why Al is becoming so desperate in his attempts to sell the global warming hoax, and I have the answer, right here. There is no global warming. Inconvenient, no? To wrap this section, let’s look a bunch of well-meaning people who are deeply concerned for the world’s poor. They have put together a video that begs Al Gore to make a movie to publicize the plight of the world’s starving. Have a look: .. The problem is, the good people at Action Against Hunger failed to show Al how he can monetize their issue, so he’s just not going to return their calls. Also, Al has a lot to do with why Africans are starving.

The Sierra Club versus Electricity
By Alan Caruba, Warning Signs
In early July the Sierra Club celebrated the fact that, “Today, 100 of those planned coal plants have been defeated or abandoned.”
They crowed over the fact that a year ago there were plans for 150 new plants and that they had successfully thwarted the provision of electrical power around the nation. As for as the Sierra Club is concerned, “This milestone marks a significant shift in the way Americans are looking at our energy choices. Cities, states, businesses and electric utilities are all moving away from the polluting coal power of the past.”
Today’s coal-fired plants are all equipped with very expensive technology that eliminates the pollution of the past, “scrubbing” their massive stacks before any is emitted. They are not polluting anything, but they are providing affordable electrical energy.
Coal represents just a shade over fifty percent of all the electricity Americans use. It is so abundant here in America that the provision of those 150 plants would have ensured that the nation had a significant portion of the additional power it requires for a growing population and our manufacturing sector.
Why does the Sierra Club oppose coal-fired plants? It says that “carbon dioxide pollution, a main cause of global warming” is the reason, but CO2 is not a pollutant. It is the gas of life because without it not one single blade of grass or any other vegetation grows on planet Earth. Our food supply, crops and the livestock that depend upon them, is the result of CO2.
And, of course, there is NO global warming. The planet has been cooling for the past decade and the science of CO2 demonstrates that it plays no role whatever with regard to major climate trends.
The Sierra Club’s opposition to coal-fired plants is entirely based on a LIE.
It doesn’t stop there, however. As far back as 1974, the Sierra Club has been opposed to nuclear energy as well. They called for “adequate national and global policies to curb energy over-use and unnecessary economic growth.”
“Unnecessary economic growth”? If a nation does not maintain its economic growth it also does not provide jobs. It does not have the means by which to fund defense, infrastructure, and to compete globally in manufacturing and exports. This is an idiotic policy, but not if your aim, your purpose is to attack the most essential element of growth, the provision of energy.
A visit to the Sierra Club website provides ample evidence of its objection to all forms of energy except the least practical and effective, the so-called “renewable” forms such as wind and solar. Even T. Boone Pickens who gambled on the largest wind farm in the Texas Panhandle has thrown in the towel, announcing that his $2 billion investment is now, in retrospect, rather foolish given the need to get the power from the farm to where it is needed.
Pickens is now stuck with 687 giant wind turbines, each of which is taller than a 30-story building.
The same may be said of solar power that, like wind, is not dependable and must be located far from the transmission lines and the nation’s urban areas that are most in need of electricity.
At what point will Americans begin to realize that the giant Green organizations like the Sierra Club, Friends of the Earth, and others stand in opposition to the very thing they most desperately need, energy?
At what point will Americans begin to realize that failing to access its own vast natural resources, coal, oil and natural gas, is suicidal?
One hopes it will not be before the economy is so severely damaged that we cannot borrow or fund the coal-fired and nuclear plants that we need to keep us from being figuratively and literally in the dark.
Solar means Cost Blowouts and Power Blackouts for Consumers
By Viv Forbes, Chairman, The Carbon Sense Coalition
Australian electricity consumers can look forward to soaring charges for electricity and blackouts if state and federal politicians continue to undermine the power grid by mandating and subsidising solar power generation. Solar power can never produce continuous, predictable low cost power. It must always be supported by expensive power storage systems or by reliable power sources such as coal, gas, hydro or nuclear. No matter how many millions of taxpayer money is poured into “research”, it can never solve the two fatal flaws of solar power.
Firstly, sunlight energy arrives in very dilute form, and thus needs vast areas of collectors to harvest significant energy. This results in high capital costs and much environmental disturbance. Solar power can light one 75-watt bulb for every card table of collectors (in the middle of the day only). How many card tables do we need to run the trains, factories, fridges, homes, heaters, hospitals and tools of a big city? Secondly, the solar energy produced during daylight hours is constantly variable and unpredictable, and zero power is generated at night. As a result, solar power farms seldom produce more than an average of 15% of their rated capacity over a year and as low as 1% for a day or so. In Australia, the maximum electricity demand occurs at about 6.30 pm in mid-winter in the big southern cities. The maximum solar power is generated at noon in mid-summer in clear northern deserts. If the nightly solar curfew is to be covered by solar power alone, this necessitates a vast area of collectors to provide grid power as well as charge a storage backup during the day and run it down at night. The scattered solar collectors also need a huge new transmission network. Such a system is inefficient and very costly. More likely, however, is that the solar farms will be backed up by gas or coal power stations running on idle and wasting fuel and capital until they are needed to supply power during the nightly solar blackouts. Solar energy has useful applications, but supplying the power grid is NOT one of them. Solar power can never supply the reliable low cost electricity needed for Australian cities and industries. In that application, it can only exist as a subsidised and troublesome appendage propped up by serious power sources such as coal, gas, nuclear or hydro. For a detailed look at Solar Power Realities, with actual performance figures see:

Open letter to Senator Mark Begich: 'Are you aware that glaciers are growing in Alaska?'
6 Jul 09 Dear Senator Begich, As someone who loves my country, I urge you to vote NO on the upcoming Control-and-Tax bill, a bill purportedly designed to fight “global warming.”
What global warming? Senator Begich, are you aware that glaciers are growing in your own state? Yes, glaciers are growing in Alaska. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), glaciers are growing in Alaska for the first time in 250 years. In May, Alaska’s Hubbard Glacier was advancing at the rate of seven feet per day – more than half-a-mile per year. And in Icy Bay, at least three glaciers have advanced one-third of a mile in one year, said Chris Larsen, a scientist at the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Senator Begich, I wish you would ask the USGS for a list of glaciers in Alaska, and ask them to tell you – honestly – which ones are growing. I have a feeling that there are more glaciers growing in Alaska than any of us have been told. My fear is that that there is a giant cover up going on, especially given the fact that glaciers are also growing in California (Mt. Shasta) and Washington (Mt. Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Glacier Peak). Every time I read about another growing glacier, I’m told that it’s “the only glacier in the world that is bucking the global warming trend.” But that’s not true. Perito Moreno Glacier, the largest glacier in Argentina, is growing. Pio XI Glacier, the largest glacier in Chile, is growing. Glaciers are growing on Mt. Logan, the tallest mountain in Canada. Glaciers are growing on Mt. Blanc, the tallest mountain in France. Glaciers (230 of them) are growing in the Western Himalayas. Glaciers are growing in Norway. Recently, all 50 glaciers in New Zealand were growing. Glaciers in Greenland are growing thicker. And contrary to what we’ve being told, the Antarctic Ice Sheet is growing, not shrinking. More than 90 percent of the world’s glaciers are growing, but all that we hear about are the ones that are shrinking. Not only are glaciers growing around the world, temperatures are dropping precipitously. Are you aware that low temperature records were set in 46 states during the month of June? According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), some 538 low temperature records were set in June alone. This temperature drop is not restricted to the United States. According to Dr. Roy Spencer, climatologist and former NASA scientist, satellite data for June shows that the earth has cooled an astounding .74°F since former Vice President Al Gore released his propaganda piece “An Inconvenient Truth” in 2006. Again, I urge you to vote NO on any Control-and-Tax bill. As author of the book Not by Fire but by Ice, and publisher of www.iceagenow.com, I can provide corroboration of the facts that I am presenting to you today, and am including links (below) to do just that.
