EPA doesn't ♥ CO2: Time to make our voices heard

By Justin C, ILCD editor

In a landmark decision long pushed for by some environmentalists and money-hungry politicians, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has almost officially declared CO2 — AKA plant food, the air you exhale, the bubbles in beer, and the basis of all life — a “pollutant”.

As the Earth continues to cool and the rest of the world has begun to realize that CO2 is neither a pollutant nor a climate driver, the EPA and the Obama administration continue to push the hoax of the century on an increasingly skeptical public. It seems as though Al Gore and the lobbyists are also ramping up their campaigns against science and reason in light of the fact that more and more people are waking up to the reality of this scam.

If the EPA succeeds in its proposed finding, this will in effect give the government the LEGAL ABILITY to tax and severely control nearly everything in our lives, ranging from driving your car all the way to switching on a television, using a hairdryer, mowing your lawn, or heaven forbid burning a candle.

This EPA “finding” cannot be allowed. All the factual science has been thrown into the trash in favour of a fatally flawed ideology and completely unfounded fear of a hypothetical human-caused climate change which is not happening, and we will all pay dearly for it.

In fact, millions of people in the third world will pay with their lives for this outrageous way of thinking, especially if this type of unscientific policy spreads around the world as many environmentalists are hoping for. Countless souls have already starved to death thanks to the nonsensical push for biofuels which has taken over food crops around the world. This madness must be stopped.

The EPA is taking comments from the public for 60 days before their decision is finalized, so PLEASE make your voices heard. Tell the legislators and politicians that we aren’t going to fall for it, and tell them to throw their junk science out the window along with this ridiculous idea that carbon is “pollution”. More and more honest politicians and unbiased (IE: non-government funded) scientists are speaking out daily but their voices are heavily suppressed and effectively silenced by Big Environment and socialist green agendas.

As Nancy J. Thorner writes:

“At a time when many Americans are being indoctrinated in a belief system based on a political agenda rather than science, it becomes the responsibility of those who have not drunk the global warming Kool-Aid to question and to confront those who are pushing global warming propaganda.

Proposed climate change legislation that seeks to limit coal, oil and nuclear as sources of energy must be opposed in mass by the American people, unless they view with fondness the horse and buggy days. Not to do so would mean a victory for global warming alarmists and their agenda.”

Please visit this link to submit your comments to the EPA. Do it now, and spread the word to everyone you know.

Reform Party of BC says: 'We ♥ CO2'

By Justin, ILCD Editor
The debate over the BC carbon tax is proving that politics really does make for strange bedfellows. Joining the B.C. New Democratic Party in vowing to axe the tax is the Reform Party of B.C., who have adopted the slogan, “We ♥ CO2.” “We will repudiate the tax — it’s a scam,” said Reform leader David Hawkins. The party would also set out to prove that the accepted carbon-driven model for explaining climate change is “scientific fraud.” Also lining up behind the NDP in railing against the carbon tax are the B.C. Conservatives, who have made the issue one of the six main planks of their platform. Not only would they give the taxation of carbon the boot, the party also proposes getting rid of B.C.’s property transfer tax and lowering personal and corporate taxes. So really, voting for any of those three parties shows that you are voting for science rather than supporting a flawed ideology which raises energy prices and subsequently everything else. Furthermore, the Conservatives and Reform BC will not just replace a scam tax (carbon tax) with another scam tax (cap-and-trade). Just say NO to taxing plant food on May 12, 2009! Excerpt from a past letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper from the Reform Party: “Reform BC leader David Hawkins, appreciates the support of Siyam Kiapalano(TM) in the Party’s efforts to trace the source of the [BC] Climate Dividend and to present a scientific, economic, legal and constitutional argument for the abolition of a Liberal carbon tax “…[sold to the public] “with the spurious claim that anthropogenic CO2 is a principal component of harmful climate change.” See the full letter HERE.

Ideological child abuse: EPA climate campaign

By Green Hell Blog

The EPA announced today that,

With Earth Day only a few days away, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is kicking off the 2009 “Change the World, Start with Energy Star” campaign to educate kids and their families about how to save money and fight climate change through energy efficiency. “People of every age have a part to play in confronting climate change,” said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. “Using Energy Star to cut electricity usage and costs, and educating young people and their families to make a difference — big or small — is how we make real progress.”

But even Consumer Reports says Energy Star is a dubious program. In September 2008, the consumer watchdog spotlighted flaws in the program including that product qualifying standards are lax ─ for example, until recently, 92 percent of dishwashers qualified. If all virtually all dishwashers are “efficient,” is anyone really saving any money on energy use? Consumer Reports also reported that the product testing programs are out-of-date and companies are responsible for testing their own products ─ without any independent verification. When testing an LG-brand French-door refrigerator that was labeled as using an Energy Star compliant 547 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, Consumer Reports found that the actual energy use was twice what was advertised. Apparently the government testing procedures call for refrigerators to be tested with their icemakers turn off. That, of course, is probably not how most people use their refrigerator. Energy efficiency advocates routinely overpromise and under-deliver, according a report from the Congressional Research Service. While numerous private and government sources have claimed that 25- to 30-percent gains in efficiency are possible over a 5- to 15-year time horizon, according to the CRS, “the diffuse nature of efficiency opportunity and the economic complexity of decision making” has historically made moving beyond the 5 percent to 7 percent electricity savings range “a persistent challenge to conservation proponents.” Although more aggressive policies could be attempted, the CRS says, there is “little track record upon which to base projections of future effectiveness.” Government brainwashing kids with dubious politically-based ideas isn’t education; it’s a form of child abuse.

Lovelock's Last Gasp: Gaia Theorist Says We're Doomed

By Alan Caruba

It is the height of vanity to think the Earth will come to an end shortly after one’s mortal life ends. Some people think that, without them, the Earth cannot survive and we call these idiots environmentalists and, sometimes, megalomaniacs.

A perfect example of this is James Lovelock, the man credited with coming up with the Gaia Theory that says the Earth is a living creature and, of course, that humans are some kind of horrid cockroach infestation that is destroying it.

Now in his 90s, Lovelock has written “The Vanishing Face of Gaia: A Final Warming.” This book is an extension of all the other astonishingly bad “science” that has brought fame and fortune to Lovelock as he and other alleged scientists began warning that “global heating may all but eliminate people from the Earth.”

Like Al Gore and James Hansen, two other prominent “global warming” charlatans, Lovelock continues to say that the Earth is warming while, for the past ten years, the meteorological satellites and other measurement instruments have reported a distinct cooling trend. At the same time, the Sun which is the primary instrument of the Earth’s climate cycles, has gone “quiet.” It is currently into one of its well known cycles of low to no sunspot activity.

At the heart of all environmentalist propaganda is the view that humans are causing “global warming” and destroying the Earth by doing things like raising crops and animal stocks to eat, using the abundant oil, natural gas, and coal sources as energy for transportation and the maintenance of our lives and industries, and generally fouling everything we touch from our rivers, oceans, land areas, and other species.

“Simply cutting back fossil-fuel burning, energy use, and the destruction of natural forests will not be a sufficient answer to global heating,” says Lovelock, oblivious to the reality of a cooling planet; one that is on the cusp of a predictable ice age since we are now about 11,500 years into an interglacial period since the last one.

Why anyone credits Lovelock with having any special knowledge or insight is beyond my understanding. He made his early reputation for his discoveries in the transfer of infectious disease and advances in the measurement of trace gases in the Earth’s atmosphere. The man is not a climatologist or meteorologist.

Lovelock and others keep telling people that carbon dioxide will be the death of all of us, claiming erroneously that it is critical to the amount of heat that exists in the Earth’s atmosphere, but CO2 is barely 0.038 percent of the atmosphere, a very minor player that shows up in increased amounts 800 or more years after any major climate change.

Moreover, there have been periods in the Earth’s past when there was a lot more CO2 and, not surprisingly, forests, jungles, and all manner of vegetation were even more abundant than now. Dinosaurs grew to huge sizes thanks to the rich diet available or by dining off of the herbivores. And then they went extinct. No one suggests they died from an excess of CO2 in the environment.

The essential problem with Lovelock’s theories about carbon dioxide and global warming is that they lack any scientific merit. The other problem is that environmentalists and politicians worldwide have latched onto them as a means to exert total control over the lives of everyone on Earth.

If Lovelock were just an obscure scientist raving about the end of the world in some English pub, we could happily ignore him, but he is one of the founders of the movement that has been taken up by the United Nations and implemented in various ways by nations that have wasted billions on so-called “clean energy” such as wind and solar energy, biofuels like ethanol, and the set-aside of vast areas of America to ensure that millions of tons of coal cannot be mined, nor billions of barrels of oil and cubic feet of natural gas tapped for our use.

Always, at the heart of Lovelock’s and environmentalist programs is the view that humans are to blame for the Earth’s extraordinary, chaotic, and uncontrollable climate systems.

Lovelock despairs that “No voluntary human act can reduce our numbers fast enough even to slow climate change. Merely by existing, people and their dependent animals are responsible for more than ten times the greenhouse gas emissions of all the airline travel in the world.”

Lovelock thinks it was “brave” for ten thousand people to make the long journey to Bali, the site of the last United Nations climate control conference, but says that “As we hold our meetings and talk of stewardship, Gaia still moves step by step toward the hot state…” No, Jim, Gaia—Earth—is cooling, not heating. That invalidates all the rest of the gibberish in his latest book and the lies President Obama and others keep telling about global warming.

When it comes to the Earth, Lovelock says that it has “not evolved solely for our benefit, and any changes we make to it are at our own risk. That way of thinking makes clear that we have no special human rights; we are merely one of the partner species in the great enterprise of Gaia. We are creatures of Darwinian evolution, a transient species with a limited lifespan, as were all our numerous distant ancestors.”

Unlike other “transient species”, however, the human one has organized itself into complex societies that permit it to use energy sources to build vast cities, developed transportation that move millions around the globe every day, have communications systems that allow people to address all manner of needs and problems, created agricultural systems that feed six billion people every day, discovered how to eliminate or cure diseases that threaten our lives, and also found time to create music, drama, and literature that enhances our lives.

All this has occurred in the very brief period of about ten thousand years from the days the first humans stood upright, banded together in families, tribes, and nations, and about five thousand years ago began to devote most of our time to looting, pillaging and killing one another with greater efficiency.

Lovelock is now closing in on his own mortality and the odds are that he will join the many other prophets of doom who despise their own species while worshipping an Earth that constantly reminds us all with earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, floods, droughts, ice ages, and other natural calamities that we are not in charge of anything.

Global Warming Hoax Weekly Round-Up, April 17th, 2009

By The Daily Bayonet

Welcome to the weekly round-up. This week I’ve got almost 100 links to skeptical salaciousness, inconvenient truths and junk science; and one sizzling link for the hottie. I spoil you.Get caffeinated and jump in.

Part One: Al Gore and Friends

Al Gore’s ‘we‘ campaign is unique. In the history of the world, no crisis has ever required a $300 million advertising spend, but I digress. Al’s ‘we’-bots are encouraged to use his, ahem, simple tool, to write to the media to encourage things like clean energy, less CO2 and free unicorns. Or something.

On his blog, Saint Al of Gore hearts Barack; in a second post, Al hearts Barack even more. Big Al is afraid that scarey chi-Coms are going to steal America’s manufacturing business. Inconveniently for Al, the green movement’s push for CFL bulbs means that ALL light bulbs sold in America will be made in China. Nice play, Shakespeare.

..

The 4th Annual carbon offset sale.Al’s in a new movie; he’s not going to like ‘Not Evil, Just Wrong’.Al Gore spoke at East Tennesse U and declared that global warming increases the chance of deaths from heat waves and shellfish poisoning, and an increase in cholera and kidney stones. Because Al’s all about the science, not the scare.

Creature from the green buffoon Al Gore, meet Al Jolson

Al Gore’s BFF and global warming muppet, Jim Hansen, declared that the the world faces catastrophe if CO2 isn’t reduced. Hanson’s colleagues say he overstated the case, but what did they expect from a man that calls coal deliveries ‘death trains’?David Suzuki, Canada’s own Gore-lite, catches some heat for blatantly exaggerating the effects of global warming. In another article, Suzuki’s totalitarian mask slips as he demands a single overseer of the eco-management of BC. He’s advocating a dictator model, which I find unsurprising, just look at the people that think just like him.

Well now, look at that. Seems almost NOBODY is falling for the carbon scam anymore! Check out the comments from the Toronto Star editorial on the BC carbon tax election discussion:

suzuki

i am really getting tired of david suzuki and his cult followers telling me how to live my life and why i should like being taxed to the point of why work. a tax is a tax no matter what and if the ndp win in bc and do away the tax all the better, by the way i am not an ndp supporter but i hate taxes. Gavin Schmidt and RealClimate are owned and funded by Envrinomental Media Services, a radical left wing political lobby group. Schmidt is also funded by the Goracle. 1935 is still the hottest temp on record, those you cited have all been debunked in climateaudit.org. And graph of average temps from 1998-2008 will show a drop in temps, even RealClimate has had no choice but to admit it. Solar scientists are saying that the sun has gone into a calmer stage and we are set for 20-30 years of cooling. Your list of supporting scientists is evaporating fast. Submitted by JRWakefield at 4:09 PM Wednesday, April 15 2009
There is no evidence at all for any of what you seem to think is because of AGW. Hell, the models prior to 1998 did not predict this past 10 years of cooling, only after the fact did they include that in their models and claimed they predicted all along. The list of scientists, including from the IPCC are coming forth and saying AGW is just not happening. Submitted by JRWakefield at 4:03 PM Wednesday, April 15 2009

I’m going to try posting again as the Star had issues with my most recent post. Basically what I said was leaders of the Green Movement, in particular Mr. Gore, live lavish lifestyles with huge mansions, and private jets. Mr. Gore also runs an environmental company wherein he buys carbon offsets to exempt his carbon footprint. Mr. Suzuki has five kids and travels around in a diesel spewing bus making money lecturing. A Tax on Life

Any form of carbon tax is a tax on life, as we are carbon based life forms; all botanists know CO2 is the basis of all plant life and life in general. AGW is now old science, and science must change as new facts come to light. With record CO2 levels we have had a decade of declining temperatures, this should not be happening if CO2 is a significant temperature forcing factor !!! It is interesting that our Sun has had no sun spots for 7 months, something that hasn’t happened since the little ice age beginning about 1650. http://spaceweather.com/ Submitted by Quantum_Solace at 1:29 PM Wednesday, April 15 2009

“Cap and Trade” proves “Climate Change” is a Hoax

How can a “scheme” (aka ponzi scheme) that increased Europe’s ghg emissions be taken seriously. Al Gore will make a mint brokering the tax collection and ghg emissions will increase. Do global governments think we’re stupid enough to believe they “are tackling a problem”. Give me a break. Submitted by Kelsey at 12:04 PM Wednesday, April 15 2009
Any new tax right now, especially one like the hated carbon tax that hits the middle class very hard, is high risk to further damage the economy. The current recession has clarified the thinking of the public; they would prefer to have a job rather than seeing politically correct tinkering with the tax system by enforcing a concept based on pseudo science propagated by unemployeed tree huggers. By the way, three years ago, the same politically correct were also predicting the end of snow in Toronto due to global warming. I guess the last two hard winters were just an illusion! Submitted by Marching On at 10:43 AM Wednesday, April 15 2009 A Carbon tax does NOTHING for the environment. Did you know that when each one of us exhales, 40% of what we exhale is Carbon dioxide? Compare that to the air which surrounds us – that contains only .03% Carbon dioxide. Do we have to pay a tax to exhale?? There is more stupidity behind a carbon tax than any other tax. In a decade from now, we will look back and realize our fear of carbon dioxide was the most ridiculous thing in the history of humans. Submitted by aMacFan2 at 10:43 AM Wednesday, April 15 2009
Fact is people the planet has not warmed since 1998, 2008 was the coldest winter in 10 years. Climate models can’t predict anything and are nothing more than “what if” computer games. The planet is simply not behaving as the warmmongers predicted. The list of scientists who challenge AGW is growing into the hundreds. Get the facts, www.co2sceince.org, www.worldclimatereport.com, www.icecap.org for starters. Example of 100 scientists who sent a letter to Obama: http://www.cato.org/special/climatechange/alternate_version.html Submitted by JRWakefield at 9:45 AM Wednesday, April 15 2009If environmentalists and economists think for one second that a carbon tax, cap & trade or any other creative way of raising taxes will go to alternate energy, they are crazy. Think about it. Do you know of any dedicated tax that goes to it’s intended destination? Tire tax, McGuinty health tax, fishing & car license. They ALL go to general revenue and the government spends it from there. The goal of new energy taxes is to make it so expensive, we’ll stop using so much and reduce pollution. I’ll grab an enviromentalist to chop wood for my fire, wave a fan at me in a heat wave and feed my dog sled team. Submitted by sailor at 8:33 AM Wednesday, April 15 20091) there already is a carbon tax, look at those pic charts when next time you bill up yur car 2) there will be more carbon tax when Ontario harmonizes PST & GST 3) as if enacting Kyoto without China , India and other emerging coal fire polluters and would have had any impact other than increase the size of government and reduce my stnadard of living. As for the the NDP flip flops- they are politicains aren’t they ? i guess the only consistent voices are the Suziki/Gore environmental lunatic fringe and the Star Submitted by nolib at 7:20 AM Wednesday, April 15 2009Personally, I feel that we are going to discover that global warming has been the biggest hoax ever played on the world. Saying that, an article in Wired is also supporting a carbon tax period. Their reasons – it would eliminate three types of parasites such as marketers intent on cashing in on anything green, government bureaucrats bestowing indulgences on politicians for their friends, and the Wall Street crowd looking for the next big thing to scam us on. It’s no surprise that the biggest pushers for the Green Movement are heavily invested in green technology/consulting and publishing. Make no mistake, this is a big money making endeavor and those pushing it should be viewed by the general public with just as much suspicion as the oil industry. Taxing air

Now they will tax the air we breathe. Submitted by McBain at 6:35 AM Wednesday, April 15 2009the carbon tax is a tax on everything and don’t believe any politican who tells you otherwise. It will cause inflation and eventually higher interest rates. The cap and trade scheme is an energy tax pure and simple. Of course the Star reports the comments of a columnist for the left wing New York Times as part of its support of the carbon tax. The U.S. is going through this discussion and there is not much support for a cap and trade system in the Congress. Mr. Obama’s environmental policy is being reworked at this every moment. This is getting funny

The only reason the B.C. N.D.P. is opposing the tax is because they smell victory over the B.C. liberals-this tax is a farce and they know it. The funniest part is watching Suzuki reacting to these turn-coats, his former left wing friends. Submitted by toady at 5:59 AM Wednesday, April 15 2009

UK: Biofuels Worse Than Regular Gas

By The Daily Bayonet
Two green groups disagree about the effects of using biofuels in the UK.Friends of the Earth claim that the the Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation (RTFO) has the effect of putting an extra 500,000 vehicles on Britain’s roads. The Renewable Energy Association (REA), a pro-biofuels group, claims that the important thing is that the UK can compete in the sustainable fuels market. The truth of the matter is that the UK has discovered the inconvenient truth that biofuels are a bad idea. The REA is a group of businesses that greenwash their brands under an eco-banner, and they want more cash to subsidize turning food into fuel. These firms are as complicit in the deaths of poor Africans as the frenzied greens that pushed biofuels as a solution to non-existent global warming. Friends of the Earth have always rejected the use of ethanol, they are one of the few eco-groups to have seen the sordid effects it would have on the poor’s food costs. Unfortunately, that’s as nice as I can be to FoE, because they are still anti-nuclear, anti-human hippies. But no-one’s perfect.

We mustn’t warm to this myth

By The Northern Echo

EVERY totalitarian regime needs its defining myth. With the Nazis, it was the “Aryan” fantasy of racial purity. With the USSR, it was the dictatorship of the proletariat. With secularised, semi-pagan Western societies in historic decline, it is global warming. Sometimes comparisons among these are alarming. For example, Ed Miliband, the climate change minister, has said that opposing wind farms is “socially unacceptable”. How long before global warming denial becomes an offence, like holocaust denial? The Government seizes approvingly on outrageous remarks by such as Dr James Hansen, who wrote in a national newspaper: “The trains carrying coal to power plants are death trains. Coal-fired power plants are factories of death.” What I find bewildering is that the Greens, who claim to care for the environment, are so strongly in favour of wind farms, which are a kind of pollution of the countryside. What’s more, they don’t work very efficiently. So why ruin the countryside for the sake of obsessed environmentalists’ gesture politics? Millions of British people enjoy our glorious countryside as a natural environment which provides an antidote to the stress of urban life. It is nothing short of wickedness to foul this delight with useless wind farms. To their credit, some governments are coming to see the uselessness of the wind turbines. Germany and Spain are losing their enthusiasm for wind power because, as reported by The Scientific Alliance, “…of the need to run back-up conventional power stations”. It is meteorologists and other scientists who point out that settled spells of either very hot or very cold weather – the weather that creates the greatest demand for electrical power – occur when there is no wind. So, when electricity demand is at its peak, wind turbines are static and produce nothing. Global warming is not indisputable. Thousands of highly qualified and experienced scientists question it. But the problem is that global warming is not being treated as a theory, a possibility, but as a truth of nature on a par with the law of gravity. It is the unassailable myth of the new totalitarians. I wouldn’t want you to think this is just Mullen shooting from the hip. I have been avidly reading scientific papers and reports and, while there are those who believe global warming is taking place, there are thousands of reputable scientists who deny it. This is entirely as it should be. Rigorous examination of hypotheses is the very basis of science. And this is what is being asked for by, among other intelligent sources, The Scientific Alliance. I quote: “The whole juggernaut of global warming is based on a framework which accepts the International Panel on Climate Change’s view of the enhanced greenhouse effect as indisputable truth. Hence the refusal to concede that any degree of scepticism or a different interpretation of evidence is legitimate. So it is even more important for critical points to be raised and debate encouraged. Scientific understanding will benefit from this: and the better the understanding, the better any necessary response can be formulated.” This is the reasonable approach and a long way from Ed Miliband’s dark words about what is “socially acceptable” and the disgraceful invocation of “death trains”.

Carbon is the world's best friend

By Wendell Krossa

A protest against carbon/CO2 cap and trade or tax proposals.

This summary is being sent to politicians, media outlets, scientists, and others across the world. It is a protest against the madness of anti-carbon thought and policies.

The Basic Science of Carbon/CO2: a brief summary
(Why are we trying to limit- cap and trade, tax- the basis of all life?)

All life is built from carbon. All life depends on carbon for its existence and functioning.

“All living things, starting at the cellular level which is common to all life, is based on carbon compounds, including the DNA that carry the gene sequences of the genetic codes. Of the trillions of cells in the human body, there is not one of them that is not made of ‘carbon'”

(see article by Bob Brinsmead- The Vindication of Carbon- at www.bobbrinsmead.com. We subsist almost entirely on carbon dioxide. “The food used by all living things, to grow and to live, is carbon dioxide…food is carbon dioxide…the food of all plants and animals is carbon dioxide”
INFO HERE
Everything is made of carbon and fueled by carbon. All things need carbon to grow and reproduce. There is only one source of carbon for all life- CO2 in the atmosphere. Plants absorb CO2 from the atmosphere (“they consume almost entirely carbon dioxide for food”- (www.bydesign.com) and process it into carbohydrates for the animal kingdom. We get our food from this chain of CO2/carbon processing.
“The only gateway through which carbon can enter the food chain to enable the biosphere to exist is through the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. There is no other way. It all starts with CO2 in the atmosphere. The entire chain of life starts with plants absorbing this entirely natural, colorless, odorless, absolutely non-toxic aerial gas called CO2…more than 90 % of the dry matter of plants is simply processed CO2. Whether it is a cow eating grass or humans eating cows, all are eating- and being fuelled- by processed CO2” (Brinsmead, The Vindication of Carbon). Recent levels of CO2 in the atmosphere have been unprecedented and dangerously low. Plant growth shuts down at 200 ppm (parts per million in the atmosphere). Plant life is stressed and unhealthy at such low levels. Life evolved over the past 500 million years at levels of CO2 that were on average a more healthy 1500 ppm (see paleo-climate graphs at sites such as Geocraft.com). A dangerous upper limit of CO2 in the atmosphere would be from 5,000 to 10,000 ppm http://www.theroadtoemmaus.org/RdLb/11Phl/Sci/CO2&Health.html
We are in no danger of approaching these high levels. Our atmosphere is currently “CO2 deprived”. Plants and crops are healthier at higher levels of CO2 than are currently present in our atmosphere (now 386 ppm). They produce significantly more biomass, and are able to cope better with such natural vagaries as drought, heat, and cold http://uddebatt.com/2008/04/01/the-wonderful-benefits-of-CO2/ .
“More CO2 makes plants more resistant to extreme weather conditions…and this expands the habitat of many plants…and enhances agricultural productivity…and helps tropical rainforests” (http://www.nationalcenter.org/NPA334.html ).
Animals also survive better with more plant life. The small increase in CO2 over the past century has significantly greened the earth and this has increased populations in the animal kingdom. It has also enhanced the impacts of the Green Revolution with notably increased crop production which has helped to feed the poor. Higher levels of CO2 in the atmosphere are more normal and natural. Current world average temperatures are also abnormally low. Higher temperatures on an ice-free earth (a warmer earth) are more normal and natural (see paleo-climate graphs at Geocraft.com). We are in one of earth’s infrequent and abnormally cold ice-age eras (the past two million years). A warmer earth would be better for all life. CO2 is not a pollutant but is a rare gas (1 molecule to every 3,000 molecules of the atmosphere) that is the essential food of all life. “All plants and animals are growing and living on a rare gas” (www.bydesign.com). And while there are other potential pollutants associated with fossil fuel use, CO2 and carbon are not among them. CO2 does not cause dangerous global warming. Rising levels of CO2 follow warming periods and do not precede or cause warming periods. See the Vostok Ice Core research at http://www.co2science.org/articles/V6/N26/EDIT.php . Oceans, which hold 90 times the CO2 that is in the atmosphere, release CO2 as they warm and this increases atmospheric CO2 levels. The CO2 increases tend to lag behind warming periods by about 800 years. CO2 is a tiny part of the greenhouse gases and the greenhouse effect ( http://geocraft.com/WVFossils/ice_ages.html ). The warming effect of CO2 gets lost among other much larger natural climate drivers. Human emissions of CO2 are even tinier (1 part per 100,000 parts of the atmosphere) and a human fingerprint causing warming is even more lost among natural influences. The human contribution to climate warming, if it were statistically detectable, would amount to nothing more than “a fart in a hurricane”. Natural climate drivers with strong, clear correlations to warming/cooling periods include cosmic rays (see Henrik Svensmark’s The Chilling Stars), solar flare cycles, related cloud cover, ocean current decadal oscillations (changing current patterns), earth’s 100,000 year wobble, and others. CO2 levels have been as high as 7,000 ppm in the past and no dangerous global warming occurred. During the Late Ordovician Period (some 400 million years ago) CO2 levels were 4,400 ppm and Earth was as cold as it is now. Note also that Earth has been cooling since 2002 despite the fact that CO2 emissions have been increasing. “There is no valid correlation between CO2 emissions and global warming”, concludes geophysicist Norm Kalmanovitch. Therefore, there is no scientific reason for us to worry about contributing to increasing CO2 levels. We do not need to reduce our carbon footprint. We do not need to reduce CO2 levels in the atmosphere or decarbonize our economies. As the 31,000 plus scientists who signed the Protest Petition have stated,

“There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth”

To demonize carbon/CO2, as environmentalists have done, is to demonize life itself. This is ridiculous hysteria and entirely unscientific.
The only way to fully understand this anti-carbon movement is to recognize that it is ideologically-driven extremism now gone utterly mad. Its real goal is to slow, halt, and even reverse economic growth and development and it uses carbon as a proxy to fight growth and the human enterprise. But the Green movement in demonizing carbon has become anti-green, anti-life, and anti-nature. Wendell Krossa wkrossa@shaw.ca Download Article

Not all Americans have been 'greenwashed'

By Derek Monson, Deseret News

Many of our elected leaders, it seems, are being “green-washed.” From the Governor’s Mansion to the White House, public officials are racing to become the most radical supporter of clean energy, as well as the fiercest opponent of man-made climate change. Does anyone not think that green energy and man-made global warming are urgent priorities? Evidently, just those crazy global warming “deniers” — the American people. According to a recent Gallup environmental survey, global warming is last on the list of Americans’ environmental worries. In fact, four in 10 Americans worry only a little or not at all about global warming and the “greenhouse effect.” Similarly, last month a Pew survey found that only 30 percent of Americans rate dealing with global warming as a “top domestic priority,” enough for last on a list of 20 possible priorities. Reasonable citizens have good cause to doubt the seriousness of man-made climate change. First, alarmists’ predictions simply don’t fit the facts. For instance, research published last month found that the world’s oceans have actually cooled since 2003. Second, published, peer-reviewed research from climate scientists such as Roy Spencer and William Braswell (aka “global warming skeptics”) is showing that basic assumptions of man-made climate change theory are likely false.Due perhaps to these facts, Americans are much more concerned about the economic realities of the present than they are about theoretical, doomsday climate predictions of the future. According to the Pew survey, the economy and jobs were Americans’ top two domestic priorities, respectively. So where should level-headed Utahns turn when the clean and green fad comes knocking at their door? Where should Utahns look for credible information when they hear from political activists and ideologues in their community that the ways they get to work and heat their homes must be sacrificed because of an impending environmental Armageddon? Evidently not the media, which 41 percent of Americans believe exaggerates the seriousness of global warming, according to Gallup. They are also not likely to receive much help from their governor, whose love affair with the Western Climate Initiative’s cap-and-trade proposal threatens to destroy the jobs and incomes of thousands of Utahns, according to a recent economic analysis by the Beacon Hill Institute. Utah legislators, on the other hand, are likely to provide some sanity. Thankfully, many state lawmakers put principles of freedom, family, and sound economics before political aspirations when it comes to climate change. Sutherland’s Earth Week 2009 event is another option. There, at least, Utahns can actually discuss global warming rather than be intimidated by it. Wherever Utahns go to get informed, if they do not hold global warming and “going green” in high esteem, they shouldn’t worry. Not only is that a reasonable, responsible way to think, it is also what the rest of America is recognizing as well. Derek Monson is a policy analyst at the Sutherland Institute.
